Zhu Zhu Pets
The Latest Toy Craze This Christmas
This holiday season, the newest toy craze is Zhu Zhu Pets which are motorized hamsters that make different sounds and have limited range of action. Meanwhile, this product are so in demand that it has become one of the most sought-after gadget gifts for kids aged between 3 and 10 years old.
Every Christmas, there is a new toy craze which proves that holidays are just a celebration of commercialism where toy makers, retailers, and store owners take advantage of consumers who seem to embrace the idea of gift giving.
In this coming Christmas, one of the most must-have gadget gifts for kids is the Zhu Zhu pet hamster (targeted to 3 to 10 years old) which is a motorized pet that plays a limited range of actions. Despite this downside, this has become the latest toy craze due to one major reason: it comes at a retail price of $10 per item—something which is appealing to most consumers during this tough economic time.
This toy—which comes at a relatively lower price compared to other past toy craze such as the robotic dinosaur Kota the Triceratops which sells $250, Mattel's Tickle Me Elmo and Tiger Electronic's Furby, and Cabbage Patch Kids—is unlikely to be the “IT” gadget gifts for kids this holiday season.
Product Description
This motorized hamster, despite its limited range of movements, may be considered as the next best thing for a real pet (especially for young children who are still trying to learn how to take care of their pets).
To make the toy seems realistic, it comes with a habitat playhouse which comes at different sizes and shapes. And for those who want to have a hamster house complete with amenities including a kitchen, bathroom areas, and connecting halls, they have to spend at least $200 for this. There are also several accessories for this pet toy such as cars, rolling balls, and tunnels.
When this toy is turned on, it makes different sounds and moves around its pen. Meanwhile, this product uses two AAA batteries which are already included upon purchase.
Market Demand
Because Zhu Zhu Pets are so in demand, its manufacturer Cepia Inc., a small company which has only 16 employees in the US, has been so overwhelmed that it cannot significantly increase the market demand for the new toy craze. In online stores like eBay and Amazon.com, the product has also become like a gold that its price is increased to $40.
With the growing frustrations of parents whose children are whining to get the latest toy craze, they have begun calling Cepia’s China-based factory. However, it seems that the company will not be able to meet the demand this Christmas season. But next year, the toy manufacturer promises to increase its production.
